ELK Stack Elasticsearch and Kibana Wednesday, 13 September 2017

Log and line based data is produced in great quantity by operating systems and applications alike. As of the moment, storage of this data is done in separate log files, scattered across different machines and directories. As a result, retrieval of particular information requires a thorough knowledge of the distribution or results in a lengthy search process.
The common approach to the problem of scattered of logfiles is to use centralized logging systems, such as rsyslogd. However, this solution does not solve the problem that log data will often be distributed over several files and might have differing formats.

Since ERST Technology is not the only organisation facing these problems, a number of solutions, both commercial as well as open source have been developed. This paper aims to explore the characteristics of the ELK toolstack, representing a popular open source implementation.

Customer specific pricing in OFBiz Thursday, 24 August 2017

Before you can really use OFBiz successfully you need to do a fair bit of custimazition. One of the things you usually start off with - is Catalog Management.

OFBiz wants you to structure your products in a Catalog (which you assign to a Web-Shop), where Categories would hold Products.  This sounds trivial but belive me it is not. So my advice is to take some time and carefully design your product structures.

As IT comany we offer not only products but also bespoken Application Development. So you might define Application Development as a product in your catalog.

If you have different prices for Application Development depending on the customer you can use the very powerful pricing rules in OFBiz.

First make sure that this product has a List Price - otherwise pricing rules will not work - which is a bit strange as you can select Percentage of Default Price as well.

The way we organized our set-up is that we check the Party Group and the Product ID and once this AND conditions are met, we apply a discount to the List Price - make sure you enter the discount value as -10 - if you forget the minus it is considered a premium and will be added to the list price.

How to setup subscription models in OFBiz Friday, 18 August 2017

I suppose like many small IT companies, we are using a bunch of Back-Office Systems to support our day-to-day operations.

As an internal project we are investigating the use of OFBiz to replace 3 Systems in the first place.

CRM = currently handled by Sugar CRM Community Edition
OTRS = Support and Ticketing System
Lexware = Accounting and basic contract Management

What is apparently the most annoying part, and I know we are not alone here, that all 3 systems keep more or less accurate customer records (Contacts, E-Mails, Addresses). We've tried our best to keep the systems in sync but with more and more customers subscribing from online services a single and central customer view is clearly preferred.

Vending and Reverse Vending Wednesday, 17 May 2017

If you are operating Vending or Reverse Vending Systems reliable Data Transfer from and to your systems is critical.

This is especially true if you operate a variety of different suppliers or models. Unfortunately the proprietary software provided by your vendor will require a massive and costly overhead to your day-to-day operations and is therefore no option.

If you wanna have a single dashboard reporting the entire systems landscape we need to talk.

Let's just illustrate the benefits of IntraNect on a few critical business tasks.
